Choose-your-own-adventure paradigm demo

To study agency in a naturalistic setting, we developed the choose-your-own-adventure (CYOA) paradigm. A story is presented one to three sentences at a time. At choice points, two options are shown as buttons; the story unfolds according to the option you pick.

How to read

  • Read the sentence in the box below.
  • Press Enter to go to the next sentence (anywhere on this page).
  • At a choice point, press Enter to reveal the two options, then click the one you want.
  • Keep reading until "The end."
